September 2018 – ZaoZhuang Project, Shan Dong Province, China

One of our volunteers visited two schools in Zao Zhuang City of Shan Dong Province while visiting families earlier of the year. The schools have a lot of needs. The principals of these two schools are very committed and determined to provide the best study environment for the students. We purchased forty sets of bunk beds and thirty dining tables for the No. 24 Middle School. In addition, we purchased a much-needed playground set for Yu Shu Yao Elementary School. We will continue to work with these schools in the future.

September 2016 – Continue to Support Safe Shores, Washington D.C., USA

As President Hongfei Zhong talked to the officer Ms. McCormac at Safe Shores, she indicated that they are very thankful for the books we donated during the last two years. It has provided large pleasure to the children who visited the center due to various reasons. They really appreciate our continuation to donate books to the center. June 2018 – Summer Fundraising Event – Lemonade Sale, Fairfax, VA, USA

CHAFF organized a Lemonade Sale Fund Raising event at theHope Chinese School Tysons Corner Campus’ end of school year picnic party. CHAFF staff did a presentation on the circumstances of the needy children, what CHAFF has done in the past and how to participate in future activities. A lot of students were shocked on what they see and are committed to raise fund for these children. Under the very high temperature, more than 30 students (from preschoolers to high school students) participated and raised the funds for the needy children. December 2017 – Guiyang Project Initiated, Guiyang, Gui Zhou Province, China

             This summer CHAFF organized a team of four students (two from the USA and two from Beijing) to visit four schools (elementary and pre-school centers). The parents of the children at these schools are called “Ming Gong”, or “Migrant Workers”, meaning that the parents left their hometown to work in bigger cities to pursue a better life. Usually theparents will leave their children in the country side to stay with their grandparents or on parent who stay behind. Dr. Li is a principal investigator at the Second Affiliated Hospital, Wenzhou Medical University, Zhejiang Province, China. Prior to that, Dr. Li was a research scientist at Veteran Affairs Medical Center at Washington. Prior to that, Dr. Li worked at Children’s National Medical Center at DC as a Postdoctoral Fellow. Dr. Li also worked at Georgetown University as a Research Assistant for six years, in Department of Biochemistry and Pharmacology. September 2017 – Yuxian Day Care Project – Thankful for Significant Progress, Yuxian, Northern Hebei province, China

The Yuxian Project has been our burden and concern for several years, as we have desired to build a pre-school daycare center for a village in Yuxian, Northern Hebei province, China. Many obstacles have been faced, including complicated zoning issues related to farmland and potential ownership disputes. September 2017 – Gui Yang Project – Tremendous Needs, Gui Zhou Province, China

We initiated our support to Guiyang Migrant Child schools, Guizhou province in 2017. Our faithful volunteer, Steven Chu again went to visit local schools on behalf of CHAFF in the summer. Some of his notes areas the following: teachers have no incentive to stay and teach due to: Pay is poor; Students don’t want to learn; Environment isn’t good. September 2016 – “Seva Sadan” Project, India

We are excited to join Dr. Banerjee, a retiree of the International Monetary Fund, to support three crèche facilities that Seva Sadan operates. The crèche programs aim to motivate and strengthen children for education, preparing the children in the crèche to eventually go to mainstream schools. The 3 programs provide opportunities for the children to improve and develop intellectual capacity through games and appropriate aids. December 2016 – Collaboration with Safe Shores in Washington DC in Supporting Children in Need, Merrifield, VA, USA

In April, Hongfei was invited by a previous coworker to attend the Safe Shores’ annual fundraising breakfast. Touched and encouraged by how the Safe Shores team works hard to help and support children under physical and sexual abuse, CHAFF decided to join this local mission locally. Each time a child finishes therapy at the facility, he or she will be given a book to take with them. CHAFF partially fulfilled Safe Shores’ Amazon book wish list, buying over 200 books to distribute to children in the facility. We will continue to work with Safe Shores to support these children.

September 2016 – Support of Four Schools/Preschools, and Two “Liu Shou Children” Centers in Xian Ning, Hu Bei Province

  Under the support and leadership from our board member Haiyan Shi, we were able to initiate two projects in XianNing City, HuBei Province.We were able to purchase books and other very needed supplies for four schools that are in the southwest part of XianNingCity.These schools do not have access to additional funds to purchase necessary furniture and supplies, for example, we purchased twelve large beds (one bed may hold three to four children) for an elementary school.
