As more and more families move out of rural areas for better job opportunities, children are often left behind with one parent or grandparents. During the summer these children may help with farm work, but most of them do not have much to do. Through our volunteer Professor Luo, we supported a summer program in Baixiang Village at Youyang County in Chongqing.
CHAFF explored the best ways to support children in rural areas and the exurbs of metropolitan areas. With help from a local after-school center, a temporary “Summer Classroom” was set up to help children with their summer homework. A “Reading Room” was also set up to promote reading. This was our first trial program and we are happy to have received very positive feedback.
