About Children's Hope and Future Foundation (CHAFF)

Vision & Mission

Children are the hope and the future of this world. Children play an integral role not only in carrying the culture from generation to generation but also in shaping the future. We believe that education is key to allowing children to improve their quality of life, reach their full potential, and to undertake their vital task of shaping a better future.

Horace Mann, an American education reformer in the 19th century, stated that education, beyond all other devices of human origin, is the great equalizer of the conditions of men, the balance-wheel of the social machinery. James A. Garfield (1831-1881), the 20th president of the US said: next in importance to freedom and justice is popular education, without which neither freedom nor justice can be permanently maintained.

CHAFF’s mission is to provide educational support to children in need to address poverty and quality of life issues. CHAFF is dedicated to promoting educational support to children with any available sources and tools. We are committed to supporting, helping and serving children with care, respect and commitment

Our Goal

CHAFF’s long term goal is to work with a wide range of individuals, companies, and organizations to promote children’s education, and to provide all necessary support to children in need. We would like to equip needy children with solid education through which they can acquire knowledge and wisdom, help themselves and their family to eradicate poverty, improve quality of life, and change the community and social environment, shape a better future.

Core Operating Values

Caring and loving attitude – CHAFF will always demonstrate compassionate support and concern for children in need. We will share this caring and loving attitude with children, schools and partners.

Board Members

Junxue Chu

CPA, Director, the World Bank, Washington D.C.

Mr. Chu has managed many World Bank financed projects in various places including China, India, and many other Asia countries. Mr. Chu joined the Bank Beijing office in June 1996, and then moved to the Bank Headquarter in Washington DC in January 2001. During the period in Beijing office, he worked as Financial Management officer and gained a broad experience and understanding of special project operations and fiduciary responsibilities. Since moved to Washington DC, Mr. Chu has taken various assignments on financial management. Mr. Chu is a very experienced financial professional, holding certificate of US Certified Public Accountant.

Wenjing (Wendy) Duan

Associate Professor, the George Wahington University, Washington D.C.

Dr. Duan teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses at GWU and conducts research on the Internet Commerce and Electronic Markets. Dr. Duan actively involves herself in the GWU Chinese Bible Study Group (GWUCBS) and the Chinese Community Church since moving to DC in 2006.

Dr. Duan received her Ph.D. from University of Texas at Austin (UT-Austin) in 2006. She was extensively involved in the campus Christian fellowship at UT-Austin.

Dr. Duan was from China and currently lives with her husband and two daughters in Northern Virginia.

Peijun Li

Principal Investigator, Second Affiliated Hospital, Wenzhou Medical University, Zhejing Province, China

Dr. Li is a principal investigator at the Second Affiliated Hospital, Wenzhou Medical University, Zhejiang Province, China. Prior to that, Dr. Li was a research scientist at Veteran Affairs Medical Center at Washington. Prior to that, Dr. Li worked at Children’s National Medical Center at DC as a Postdoctoral Fellow. Dr. Li also worked at Georgetown University as a Research Assistant for six years, in Department of Biochemistry and Pharmacology.

Dr. Li was awarded his Ph. D in Physiology and Biophysics, and Master of Science in Pharmacology from Georgetown University. He was also awarded Master of Science Degree in Developmental Biology and Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Shandong University, China.

Dr. Li was born in Shandong Province of China. Dr. Li and his wife Xiaoqin and daughter Mary live in Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province, China.

Steve King

Esq., Managing Partner, Gammon & Grange, Tyson's Corner, VA

Mr. King is a managing owner in the law firm of Gammon & Grange, P.C., McLean, Virginia. His practice concentrates on the representation of tax-exempt organizations involved in both domestic and international activities, including such matters as structuring and establishing organizations, compliance with federal and state tax and regulatory requirements, risk management issues, and human resources. Mr. King is extensively involved with the firm’s charitable solicitation compliance practice.

Before joining Gammon & Grange in 1995, Mr. King served as an instructor of International Law and Business at several institutions in the People’s Republic of China. Mr. King received his LL.M. in International and Comparative Law from Georgetown University Law Center, and his J.D. from Northeastern University. He is admitted to practice in the states of Virginia and Massachusetts, and before the United States Supreme Court, the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Tax Court. Mr. King lives with his wife and two sons in Northern Virginia.

Haiyan Shi

Economist, International Monetary Fund, Washington, D.C.

Dr. Shi joined the International Monetary Fund in July 1999. Previously, she worked in the World Bank for one and half years. Dr. Shi received her Ph. D from American University in Washington, DC in December 2001. Dr. Shi served as Assistant Principal in Hope Chinese School (Herndon campus) during 2008-10 and president of the Chinese Staff Association of the World Bank Group, IMF and IADB during 2009-11. She is currently the vice president of the Union of Chinese American Professional Organizations (UCAPO) and the board member of Education Association for China Tomorrow (EACT).

Dr. Shi is from China and lives in northern Virginia.

Hongfei Zhong

CPA, Founder, Jo-Jo Accounting and Consulting LLC, Mclean, VA

Mrs. Zhong is the founder of Jo-Jo Accounting and Consulting LLC. Prior to that, Mrs. Zhong worked as the Chief Financial Officer for Lantian Development LLC, Assistant Controller for Clark Enterprises, Inc. and Director of Property Accounting for the Mills Corporation. Mrs.Zhong also worked in various positions in China. Mrs.Zhong’s specialty has been in financial reporting and management both in U.S. and China. Mrs.Zhong has been involved in serving several charities.

Mrs. Zhong received her Master of Accountancy from The George Washington University in Washington D.C., U.SA, and Master and Bachelor of Economics in Public Finance from The Central University of Finance and Economics in Beijing, China. Mrs. Zhong was from China and currently lives with her husband and two children in Northern Virginia.
