In December 2010, CHAFF initiated a Book Drive program by donating 2,000 books to two elementary/middle schools in North China. The schools are located in the Zhang Bei region of HeBei Province where living standards are below the poverty line. In early 2012, we have donated more than 5,000 books to 11 schools in Inner-Monolia and Nothern HeBei Province in China. These books are very much needed, as shown by the deep appreciation of both teachers and students. The teachers find that these books are not only helpful in assisting their teaching, but they find benefit for themselves from reading these books. The students are thirsty forthese books. Already the children have read many of the donated books. They have learned scientific knowledge, history, how to love and serve people, how to grow up to contribute to society. As we have read the messages from both teachers and students, we have been thankful that we can help. And we are grateful that we are positively influencing the children
Education is key in bringing a better life to needy children. And an important factor in education is to read good books. Love of reading is the foundation of education, knowledge and wisdom.
This is why CHAFF brings books to children in underserved areas who do not have access to books or other educational resources. For children in early childhood, reading is essential to enable them to reach their potential.
"Pre-school Center" Program
"...... becausethere are no opportunities to receive pre-school education, the children's developmental level in language, cognition, memory, and social skills in those areas (poor area) is only 20-60% of the same age children in the city......" - Ban Yue Tan Journal
2013/11re-school facilities are very much needed in the rural area in China. We initatially had the intention to build a pre-school center for a village in Yu Xian, Zhang Bei Region, Hebei province. Later on, the village was able to build a three classroom facility and we were able to hep the inside renovation and finish, in addition, we helped build an indoor bathroom. We continue to support the winter coal cost and provide some subsidy to the only teacher there.
"School Supporting" Programs
Realizing each school has various needs, including school facility, supply, teacher training, students poor health/financial condition, in addition to initially donating books to schools, we have started to sponsor/support school as a whole body. "Volunteering" Program
The goal is to give the young generation an opportunity to learn the world, to nurture their responsibility to care and love needy others, to bring the awareness to the next generation that not every child is lucky, and there are a lot of needy children.
In July and August 2013, we organized twelve children (from age 6 to 16) to volunteer in an orphanage in suburban Beijing. For many of these children this was their FIRST such activities. The children helped feed the children, played games with the children, organized the bookshelves, cleaned the classrooms and playground, helped teachers translate materials from English into Chinese, helped teachers input information into computers and analyze related data, among other activities. Even though it was very short, all the children loved it. One child told us she started to appreciate her parents more for their hard work to raise her up; another told us that he felt that these children in the orphanage need lots of love, however he could not really give much and he felt very sad about the children. We also saw that some volunteers felt so much love for the orphans that they even wanted their parents to adopt the children. We planted the seeds of caring and loving and we are certain that one day big trees of love will grow from these children’ hearts and they will serve others well. We hope to be able to provide similar opportunities to more volunteers in the future.
"Love & Care" Program
We donate books, educational toys, and gifts to children in different orphanages as needed. We have donated books, toys, and supplies to more than ten orphanges / special educational centers in China. They are located in Beijing, Inner Mongolia, Jiang Xi province, Zhe Jiang province. We will continue to provide support to children in these facilites and explore the best way to provide further support and help.
"Teacher Training" Program
In spring 2013, per request from an orphanage in suburban Beijing, CHAFF provided full financial support for two teachers to attend a 10 day Montessori training.
We will continue to sponsor the training and seek creative ways to provide efficient and effective training, including inviting teachers to schools/orphanages to do on - site training.
